Jurgen Klopp leaves a huge legacy at Liverpool after nine years at the helm of one of England's most storied clubs. His mark goes beyond ending a 30-year streak without winning the Premier League, even beyond the eight crowns won in that period, as the German boss was responsible for the development of the careers of young players who are now stars.

Klopp arrived at Liverpool for the 2015-16 season and finished in the top four in virtually every season (only finishing fifth in 2022-23), making him a constant guest in the Champions League, but on January 26 2024 he announced that his time as Reds boss would end at the end of the season.

His record might have been greater had it not been for a near-perfect season for Manchester City in 2019 and the two Champions League finals lost to Real Madrid, but beyond that, Klopp's stamp will remain on those players he turned into stars.

As you will notice, there are some cases of players who were not trained from the outset in Liverpool's academies, but picked up talent from players who began their training at other clubs, such as James McConnel, who started out at Sunderland.

However, Sunderland closed their academy after their constant relegations. Another similar case is that of Bobby Clark, who was recruited by Newcastle, but had previously played for Birmingham.

Several academies in England have been forced to close due to financial issues and teams such as Sunderland or Brentford do not have the capacity to sustain an infrastructure that gives them few talents. It is easier for these clubs to recruit externally.
