The second outing for current Champions League runners-up Liverpool was again not as expected. Against a serious Ajax side who visited Anfield with their chips firmly stacked to hold off the Reds' attack, the Colombian's team once again failed in their offensive solvency to take the result in a straightforward manner and ended up suffering until the 88th minute in order to secure the first three points of their continental campaign.

Luis Díaz was once again one of the most important players and followed his team's plans at all times; he also showed rebelliousness to shake up his club's attack, which at times seems to have no variants, calling for the Colombian to play a leading role, who does not shrink when faced with difficult situations and, on the contrary, gives his best on the pitch.

One of those solo moves that meant the recognition of the stadium where he officiates as local, occurred in the second half, when the clock showed the 65th minute and the Colombian winger received a ball in the high part of the field, there without much space to manoeuvre the ball was quick to give an optimal resolution to the mark that was already stalking him.

Unfortunately that, as well as other approaches by the Colombian, did not manage to end in the Ajax net, but it did mean that Díaz received a standing ovation when his coach decided to take him off in the 90th minute of the game, giving place to James Milner, who would occupy a position in midfield, in an attempt to close the game in the defensive zone, as at that point they had managed to unlock the tie and had the three points in the bag.

Diaz's great performance against Ajax

Among the other approaches that the Colombian had throughout the game, one of the clearest came in the 21st minute, when his team was still at 0-0. At that moment an offensive play generated a series of rebounds, which ended up being left to Diaz at his feet inside the big area, where, without taking too long, he controlled the ball with his chest and hit it with a half-volley with his right foot, the whole manoeuvre was precise, except the aim of the shot, which passed just centimetres from the goal of the Dutch club.
