Egypt's Mohamed Salah is recovering favourably from the injury he suffered playing in the Africa Cup and is back in training with Liverpool. The striker's return could come as early as Saturday when the Reds take on Brentford or next Wednesday against Luton, both Premier League games.

This is good news for manager Jurgen Klopp as his side have suffered injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai. During the last summer transfer window, Saudi Arabia set their sights on Mohamed Salah, highlighting their interest as much for cultural and religious reasons as for his undoubted talent on the pitch.

The Saudi League showed a particular fascination for the Egyptian player, leading Al-Ittihad, the club where Benzema plays, to submit a surprisingly high transfer proposal to Liverpool. The offer, rejected at the last minute, amounted to £175 million (about 200 million euros), split between £100 million guaranteed and £75 million in variables.
