Bakayoko puts himself forward for Liverpool after shining in PSV’s win
Salah’s future and Bakayoko as an option
Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain, as his contract expires at the end of the season. In this context, Johan Bakayoko has emerged as a potential long-term replacement for the Egyptian, fueling speculation about a possible move to the Reds.
Goal and standout performance against Liverpool
The Belgian winger made a strong impression in PSV Eindhoven’s recent 3-2 victory over Liverpool. In that match, Bakayoko scored a crucial goal after skillfully getting past Jarell Quansah and Andy Robertson before finishing powerfully past Caoimhin Kelleher.
Bakayoko: "I definitely think I can join Liverpool"
After the match, the 20-year-old did not hide his confidence in his ability to fit into Liverpool. "I definitely think I can join Liverpool," he said when asked if he was at Arne Slot’s level. However, he regretted that the Reds did not field their strongest lineup: "We can be happy to have won against big names, but they didn’t come with their best team. That’s a shame."
Rules out a move to Saudi Arabia
Bakayoko also made it clear that, unlike other players, he is not considering a move to Saudi Arabia at this moment: "I wouldn’t make such a move now, no. But you have to consider each situation. Everyone must decide for themselves, and you have to respect their decision."
Responds to his coach’s criticism
The young Belgian also responded to criticism from his own coach, Peter Bosz, for his style of play, admitting that he enjoys "showboating," even though his manager prefers a more efficient approach. "I don’t think the coach is happy about that. But I think that’s also the reason why people come to the stadium. I like a flashy style, but he prefers efficiency," he explained.
A rising talent
With eight goals so far this season, in addition to the 14 goals and 14 assists he registered last year, Bakayoko continues to establish himself as one of Europe’s top young prospects. Could he be Liverpool’s next signing?
