Liverpool are ready to challenge Atletico Madrid for Bayer Leverkusen's highly-rated defender Piero Hincapie with a bid that could reach €55m, reports Don Diario. Hincapie, who is also on Real Madrid's radar, has emerged as one of the Bundesliga's emerging talents, contributing to Bayer Leverkusen's success this season despite limited playing time under Xabi Alonso.

Despite starting as a substitute in the Bundesliga, Hincapie has been a key player in the Europa League and DFB Pokal, attracting interest from elite clubs such as Liverpool and Real Madrid. The 22-year-old, who made 30 Bundesliga appearances last season, now faces the opportunity to establish himself as a first-team regular and continue his development at a higher level.

Liverpool, in particular, are ready to make a significant bid for Hincapie, which could complicate Real Madrid's plans. With the need to strengthen their central defence following the injury to Joel Matip and his impending contract expiry, the Reds see Hincapie as an ideal option to improve their squad and provide competition for Andrew Robertson at left-back.

Atletico Madrid, for their part, want him to boost their rotation for the short and long term, bearing in mind that most of their centre-backs are getting on in age and that a couple are close to leaving the club. Hincapié would be an ideal profile to take the place of Mario Hermoso, who it is not known whether he will stay or leave the Metropolitano.

The possibility of joining the Premier League could be tempting for Hincapie, who will be looking to prove himself in one of the best championships in the world. Liverpool could also have an additional advantage in the race to sign Hincapie if they decide to appoint current Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso as Jurgen Klopp's successor. This potential link between Alonso and Liverpool could influence Hincapie's decision regarding his future club.
