Typically, when two teams meet in a league game in February, that would be the last time those teams would play each other that season, with the reverse fixture taking place before the turn of the year.

That's not the case for Liverpool and Everton, however, and fans won't have to wait too long until the second Merseyside derby of the campaign.

Wednesday night's fiery clash , which was originally scheduled for early December but was postponed due to adverse weather conditions, was only the first meeting between the two sides this year, with the visit to Anfield just weeks away.

Everton make the trip to Stanley Park on April 2, when Arne Slot and his Liverpool players will no doubt have revenge on their minds, as well as the Premier League title.

The last derby at Goodison Park was packed with drama, including a last-minute equaliser for the home side and four red cards, three of which were for Liverpool players.

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure were sent off for their role in starting a post-match brawl, while Arne Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also sent off for the way they protested after the game.

The Toffees are virtually safe from relegation, with David Moyes having had the desired impact since replacing Sean Dyche as manager earlier this year, and that could be bad news for Liverpool in the return derby as the pressure could be on the Reds if the title race is still alive at that stage of the campaign.

Slot's men currently hold a seven-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, and while the Gunners will have enjoyed what they saw at Goodison Park earlier this week, they are not best placed to take advantage of any further slip-ups.

That's because Mikel Arteta is struggling with something of an injury crisis: Arsenal were hit by the news that Kai Havertz will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring tear earlier this week, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are also recovering from hamstring injuries, and Gabriel Jesus is out for the season with knee ligament damage.
