A significant number of Liverpool fans will not travel to Paris for Wednesday's Champions League round of 16 tie against PSG, fearing a repeat of the incidents that occurred on May 28, 2022 during the Champions League final in Saint Denis

As reported by Le Parisien, many of them are still traumatised by the incidents that took place outside the Stade France three years ago and which caused the match against Real Madrid to be delayed by 30 minutes.

Among them are members of the HSA (Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance), who have informed the club that they will not travel to Paris with the rest of the Liverpool supporters' expedition, after not having overcome the trauma of the run-up to the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

A wave of criminals attacked a large number of English fans who were preparing to cross the security ring at the Stade France, leading to a madness that put into question the safety of the match taking place in full conditions.

The match has not been declared a high-risk event and a meeting is planned between the authorities and the displaced Liverpool fan groups to establish a meeting point and avoid any reminiscence of what happened three years ago. “I was caught in the turnstiles and then in the attacks by gangs and police after the match.

I had never seen anything like it. When the police refused us access to the stadium, we had the impression that they were herding them (the fans) like animals being led to the slaughterhouse. It was horrible,” recalled a still-traumatised Liverpool fan to Le Parisien.

The English club's fans are complaining about the poor security around the Stade France and have told various French media that the problem is not with the Parisians, but with the security forces.

The wounds have not yet healed and that is why a huge number of fans, suffering from the after-effects of the embarrassment, declined to travel. From Paris they are calling for common sense and affirming that there will be no problem on Wednesday, when PSG and Liverpool will face each other in one of the most spectacular Champions League knockout matches in recent years.
