Several strikers have been linked with the club in recent weeks with Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Charles De Ketelaere among the names mentioned.
But there is another frontman who is attracting the club’s attention and there appears to be a bidding war afoot between Liverpool and Arsenal for his services.
Liverpool and Arsenal in transfer fight
Mohamed Amoura, 24, has been in sensational form for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga this season with eight goals and eight assists in 21 matches.
He scored a fantastic goal in a recent German top-flight match against Bayern Munich and is beginning to garner wider notice for his exploits.
Although standing only 5’6, the Algerian international is capable of playing centre-forward or left-wing and would bring the kind of versatility to the attacking line that Slot requires.
However, complicating the picture is the presence of Arsenal, who are also reported to have the former ES Setif star on their list.
Sport Bild is reporting that Eintracht Frankfurt are also circling for Amoura but will be unlikely to meet the Wolfsburg asking price.
In fact, the Volkswagen-owned outfit do not yet own Amoura outright. He joined the club only on loan last summer from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise for a fee of €3 million. Wolfsburg will owe another €14.5m in a transfer fee, plus €2m in bonuses, to make the move permanent next summer.
Mohamed Amoura back on Liverpool radar
However it is expected that option will be taken up with Amoura now earmarked for an immediate departure for a player whose Wolfsburg contract will run until 2029.
Amoura is no stranger to Liverpool, scoring against the Reds during the 2023/24 Europa League campaign for Union.
It was reported ahead of last summer's transfer window that the club's recruitment staff were ready to make a move in the transfer market.
Liverpool want Mohamed Amoura
Sport Bild estimates that the Germans will ask for €40m to sell their striking sensation even if club officials are denying that possibility for now.
"For me, it is out of the question that he will leave,” sporting director Peter Christiansen is reported to have said.
However, according to the same publication, the Reds have ALREADY been in touch with Amoura’s representatives over the outline of a summer deal. “Liverpool are also in contact with Amoura's management,” the report says.
A lightning-quick dribbler and accurate finisher, Amoura could cover Luis Diaz’s role in the Liverpool team as well as providing robust cover up top, where Diogo Jota has been unable to stay fit.
He has made a gradual rise to the top of the game, moving from Setif in his homeland to Lugano of the Swiss Super League in 2021.
From there he spent one season at Union before making the move to Wolfsburg. A full Algeria international, Amoura has scored eight times in 31 senior caps.
Liverpool’s game against Wolves will kick-off at 14:00 GMT on Sunday 16th February.
The game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Sports Main Event and Ultra HD.
