Liverpool were surprised at the hands of Plymouth , the last team in the Championship, were eliminated and extended their incredible record by playing in the FA Cup on February 9 .

With a lot of competition ahead, Arne Slot opted to move the team and rotated the entire eleven thinking about what is to come.

It didn't work out as Plymouth executed their plan to perfection and eliminated them with a Hardie penalty that put the Premier League leaders in check.

This 1-0 victory for Plymouth will not only be historic for what this Second Division team achieved, but it also confirmed a lesson for Liverpool: they do not have to play for the FA Cup again on February 9 .

The Reds have played on this day and in this competition four times and have always lost.

The bad streak began in 1901 , when Liverpool was eliminated by Notts County, losing 2-0.

On 9 February 1972 , Liverpool returned to play in the FA Cup and were defeated at the hands of Leeds United , who won 2–0.

44 years later, on 9 February 2016 , the Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup by West Ham, who won 2-1.

Finally, on February 9, 2025, they completed their fourth FA Cup defeat in a game that seemed impossible to lose: Plymouth, the last team in the Championship, beat Slot's team 1-0 to achieve a historic feat.
