Karius' Controversial Final for Liverpool

Loris Karius, the Liverpool goalkeeper marked by his performance in the 2018 Champions League final, which saw the 'Reds' lose 3-1 to Real Madrid, has signed for Schalke 04, announced the German second division club on Tuesday.

In that 2018 final, which ended up being his last match for Liverpool, it was a nightmare for the German goalkeeper, who was directly involved in two of the three goals conceded by his side, earning harsh criticism.

Concussion Diagnosis and Loan Spells

Five days after the match, Karius was diagnosed with a concussion, the result of an elbow to his temple from then-Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos early in the game. After that, Karius was loaned to Turkish side Besiktas for two seasons, before also playing for Union Berlin and Newcastle, where he made only two appearances over two seasons.

A New Chapter in His Career at Schalke 04

Now a free agent since July 2024, Karius, 31, finds a new opportunity with Schalke, a historic German club currently positioned in the middle of the second division standings.
