Colombian striker Luis Díaz's last match with Liverpool was not the best in the eyes of several fans of the English club. One play in particular, when the clock was ticking down to the 92nd minute, has upset some of the fans.
The criticism of several fans was joined by a well-known account on X (formerly Twitter) of Colombian fans who support Liverpool, known as Liverpool FC Colombia.
Thanks to a controversial penalty against Luis Díaz, Liverpool beat Girona and finished the year undefeated in the Champions League.
Liverpool fans, born in Colombia, did not like the performance of their compatriot and, in particular, regretted that Díaz had not passed the ball to the Egyptian Mohamed Salah in the last minutes of the game, when the club was tying 2-2 against Fulham, this Saturday, in a Premier League match.
“We must not turn a blind eye. Even though he is Colombian, here Luis Díaz had the pass (again, like in the Copa América final, but to Quintero) to Salah. It is clear that in the game it is more difficult, but it is elite. He should have done it. Actions that cost”, lamented the fans.
At Anfield everything soon went uphill for the 'Reds': first an own goal scored by the Brazilian Andreas Pereira (11) and minutes later the expulsion of the Scottish full-back Andy Robertson (17), who brought down the Welshman Harry Wilson when he was heading alone towards the goal defended by Alisson Becker.
But Arne Slot's men seemed to react, and managed to equalize the match with a header from Cody Gakpo (47), taking advantage of a cross from the Egyptian Mohamed Salah.
Just as Liverpool's players were beginning to dream of a comeback, Fulham brought them back to earth and regained the lead on the scoreboard with a goal from Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz (76).
Ten minutes later, assisted by Uruguayan Darwin Núñez, striker Diogo Jota (86) perfectly solved the game against Bernd Leno to make it an epic draw.
With 36 points and still one game to play, Liverpool remains the leader, with a 5-point advantage over Chelsea, who host Brentford on Sunday. Arsenal is third with 30 points, after failing to go beyond a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium against Everton.
