Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of the stars of the Liverpool side that won the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020 under Jürgen Klopp. But this season, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder has hardly been getting any game time and one of the teams he has played for is keeping an eye on this detail: Arsenal are reportedly interested in securing a star return at the end of the year.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined the Gunners in 2011, where he spent six seasons and won three FA Cups and three Community Shields before being transferred to Liverpool. There, he was able to shine and won his first international titles at club level. But his present is not as expected: in ten games so far this season, he only played 70 minutes in the Premier League and 23 in the Champions League. In the 3-0 win over Norwich in the League Cup, it was the only game in which he played all 90 minutes.
"Defending like a child", the devastating critique of Liverpool
The favour Real Madrid would do Liverpool in the transfer window
According to The Sun, Arsenal will try to arrange a six-month loan deal in January and then look to buy him at the end of the season. There is the possibility of a meeting with his former Gunners team-mate Mikel Arteta, who is now the team's coach. Negotiations have just begun and in the next few days they could reach good terms for the player to move on in the winter.
At 29 years of age, Chamberlain is suffering yet another career-ending injury, an ailment that has dogged him for the past few years. If the situation wasn't bad enough for him, this is the last year of his contract with the Reds and it looks like he won't be renewed and will have to find a new team next July.
However, he still has to return to play this season and help Liverpool, who are going through a bad time with the injury he suffered in the hamstring area. This problem left him out of the list of players who will participate in the group stage of the Champions League in which Liverpool debuted with a drubbing against Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
