Manchester United claimed a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in an English football derby between two struggling sides, with the Reds still without a win after three games despite outstanding performances from Luis Diaz.

Dutch coach Erik ten Hag's side managed to take all three points with goals from England internationals Jadon Sancho in the 16th minute and Marcus Rashford in the 53rd. An unfamiliar Liverpool side pulled a goal back through Egypt's Mohamed Salah in the 81st minute, but it was too late to prevent the Red Devils' first win of the season.

Luis Diaz, who started the entire match, was in tough duels with his opponents and despite being at times the most influential player, the United defenders stopped his attacks in any way they could, even with infringements.

The mockery

Manchester United's French defender Raphael Varane posted on social media: "Tonight we showed our passion and fought like we should! Old Trafford you were amazing", accompanied by three images, including a hard tackle on Diaz in the first half, as a real mockery, by way of showing off a lethal tackle on the Colombian player.

Varane was booked for that action against the Liverpool striker, who was able to continue, but took the memory of that foul, which the Red Devils player showed by way of victory. With the win, United moved up to 14th in the Premier League, level on points (3) with Aston Villa, while Liverpool dropped to 16th.
