AC Milan played in the Middle East, their final warm-up game ahead of the resumption of the Premiership where they are currently sixth overall, outside of the European places. German coach Jürgen Klopp's side gave a masterclass on the pitch, beating reigning Italian champions AC Milan 4-1, where Uruguayan Darwin Núñez shone brightly, scoring the Red's last two goals.

Nunez, who just played his first World Cup with the Uruguay national team, said goodbye to Qatar like all his teammates in a sad and empty way, because for the expectations of the two-time world champion, staying in the Group Stage was a huge failure. The Charrúas finished second-bottom with the same four points as South Korea, but with a better goal tally.

The 23-year-old was given a tremendous opportunity to establish himself

The former Benfica and now Liverpool FC star played 240 minutes in the tournament, where he registered three starts and no goals. What's more, the Uruguay national team only asked to score two goals in total, and that came in the last match against Ghana (0-2), where Núñez picked up his only yellow card of the competition. With his powder wet, Darwin took a few days off and returned to training with the Reds.

The 23-year-old striker was not called upon by Klopp in the first match played in the Middle East, where The Pool were beaten 3-1 by Olympique Lyon. The lack of goals and a lack of punch led the German to rely on the charrúa, who was given the confidence in the final part of the game, when the scoreboard already had the advantage for Liverpool. Entering the 59th minute, Darwin changed the course of the game.

Núñez will try to shine again

Núñez came on the pitch, full of energy and with a lot of involvement, as he knew that after his performance in Qatar he was not assured of a place in Klopp's starting eleven. That is why the player played one of his greatest games on his arrival at Anfield, where with a brace he raised his hand and once and for all secured that top spot, closing in some way, the possibility that The Pool could sign someone else in this transfer window that will start in January.
