He has barely played 1 game this season for Liverpool, which was in fact last summer and is a long way off. But 36-year-old Adrian San Miguel, Liverpool's Spanish goalkeeper, hopes to stay on and renew his contract with the Reds, so the goalkeeper has confessed to The Athletic that he wants to stay on.

"I have a great relationship with the manager and the club. We have been in talks and we are very close. I know the situation and my role in the squad. Everyone wants to play and have minutes on the pitch, but you also need a big squad with good people who give their all every day in training," said the goalkeeper.

Among the positions that could undergo changes ahead of the 2023-2024 season is goalkeeper. Brazil's Alisson is untouchable, but his two main deputies, Spain's Adrian San Miguel and Ireland's Caoimhin Kelleher, are both likely to leave the club. The former because he looks set to return to Spain, and the latter because he wants to move to a club that will give him more opportunities.

The new captain

According to various reports, with the departure of James Milner, Alisson will be one of the team's captains alongside Jordan Henderson and Virgil Van Dijk. Although the renewal of Adrian and Kelleher suggests that he will not play every game next year.
