Liverpool's board have begun to take the first steps towards securing the services of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone. The Germans are open to considering the sale of a player who has already expressed his desire to move on.Immersed in planning for the coming season, Liverpool's board have begun to tighten their grip on Frenchman Manu Koné, a player who seems to be completely to the liking of both his German coach, Jürgen Klopp, and his new sporting director, the Teutonic Jorg Schmadtke.

According to the Bild newspaper, the islanders have already contacted his club, Borussia Mönchengladbach, to find out about the player's situation and the conditions of a hypothetical negotiation. In this regard, the German side have already made it clear that, although they are willing to sell, they will not give in for less than €45m.

The Bundesliga side's firm stance is largely due to the fact that they have already suffered the departure of three players who have not left a single euro in their coffers. Marcus Thuram, Lars Stindl and Ramy Bensebaini have taken advantage of the end of their commitments to seek new horizons and have not generated any revenue for a team in the midst of a much-needed squad overhaul.

The new star

Koné, 22, has just completed his second season with Gladbach. In this meagre period, the midfielder has managed to make 60 official appearances (four goals and two assists). He has also recently been one of the mainstays of the France U21 team.
