Frenchman Karim Benzema will not remain at Real Madrid after 14 seasons in which he became the player with the most titles in the club's history and at the age of 35 will begin a new stage of his career in Saudi Arabia - although his official confirmation is still pending. Benzema leaves Real Madrid considered as one of its great legends, a reference in a generation for the history of football that won five Champions League titles. He is the player with the most titles along with Brazilian Marcelo, with 25, the fifth most games played (647) and the second top scorer in the history of the club with 353 goals, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo (450).
Benzema himself appeared to hint at staying when he received a career award on Thursday, where he said of rumours of his departure that they were on the internet and "the internet is not reality". According to the Spanish press, the Frenchman's next destination is Saudi Arabia. "Although Benzema's destination looks set to be Al Ittihad, the player has signed a contract with the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport that could send him to any of the Saudi teams that have qualified for the Asian Champions League," writes the online edition of Madrid daily AS.
"Benzema is expected to join Al Ittihad, the reigning Saudi Arabian league champions. Because Cristiano Ronaldo plays for their closest rivals, Al Nassr, and Messi is expected to play for the country's other big club, Al Hilal," added the Madrid sports daily.
Liverpool's star striker could be set for a move next season. Valued at around €80m, Paris Saint-Germain are not ruling out a move for the Egyptian. An Egypt international, Mohamed Salah (30) remains one of Liverpool's key players. At this stage of the season, he has 19 goals and nine assists in 34 games this term. A more than outstanding record for this Premier League powerhouse.
