Liverpool had a disappointing season in the Premier League after failing to secure a place in the next Champions League, so the board has decided to begin a restructuring that has led to the departure of several players who in recent years have played a key role and who, thanks to their achievements with the club, have become respected figures in the team.

Some of the players who have already confirmed their departure are Roberto Firmino, who in recent days has been linked to Real Madrid and Napoli, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. All of them were once key players in Jürgen Klopp's project, but their time at the club is over and they might not be the only ones to leave Anfield.

Liverpool legend and current Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher advised the German tactician to part with one of the team's defensive stars who has won everything for the Merseyside outfit and who, during the club's most recent golden era, has been Virgil van Dijk's ideal partner: Joel Matip.

The former Reds captain said that Liverpool should seriously consider selling Joel Matip this transfer window, as at 31 years of age and with only one year left on his contract they could get 10 million for him and prioritize the restructuring of the team. "I look at the defense and I think Joel Matip now has got a year to go. If you got 10million, whatever the price may be, it's probably right to move on," he said.

Matip won it all with Liverpool

Joel Matip has become a fan favorite at Anfield, forming one of the best defensive duos of recent times alongside Virgil van Dijk, with whom he has won it all. Champions League, Club World Cup, Premier League and the European Super Cup are some of the trophies he won during his time with the Reds.
