Liverpool face AFC Ajax on 13 September in the first leg and 26 October in the return leg. Both clubs have 10 European Cups between them and will meet again in the group stage.

There will be a new man in the Dutch champions' dugout (Alfred Schreuder) since their last meetings with Liverpool in 2020-21. "The stories and images from Anfield are always great. Now we can experience it ourselves, with the fans," said coach Alfred Schreuder.

More Liverpool news:

Schreuder is the replacement for Erik ten Hag, now at Manchester United, signed in the summer from Club Brugge. The former Barcelona assistant has had to cope with a number of key departures from the squad that won the Eredivisie and reached the last 16 of the Champions League last season.

Top scorer Sebastian Haller, who scored 34 goals, has left, along with Lisandro Martinez, Ryan Gravenberch, Perr Schuurs and Nicolas Tagliafico, but Steven Bergwijn has arrived as a goalscorer following his move from Tottenham Hotspur, as has Brian Brobbey from RB Leipzig.

Ajax in the Champions League

Last season, Ajax finished top of their Champions League group, which included Sporting CP, Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas, by a nine-point margin, having won all six of their games.

But their European journey ended at the hands of Benfica when Darwin Nunez scored the decisive goal in the second leg of their last-16 tie.
