The Spanish midfielder was seen as the next big thing at Anfield at one point, but after he struggled to break into the first team, he made the bold decision to turn down a new contract at Liverpool and leave the club. Chirivella says he was eager for a fresh start, and while he admits he took a big risk in leaving Anfield, he says things have gone much better than he expected since he left the Reds.

Chirivella's words

"Yes, because the contract was not for me to be a youth player, I was there to go on loan and when I came back having played one or two seasons on loan I wanted to see if I was capable of being a youth player. I was a player at Liverpool, but even if I had good experiences on loan, I just wanted a new start, somewhere where I could find a home, I could settle in and that was the key to moving to Nantes," said Chirivella.

"For me it's going better than I expected it after everything I went through at Liverpool. I took a risk not to sign a new contract and to go somewhere else, but I trusted myself to have a good time here in Nantes and since the day I arrived I've been an important player for the team and things are going great. We will be playing Europa League this season and my third year here will be better."

It reallly that he's not good enough to be a starter for a club like Liverpool, but he's carving out a very respectable career over in France, and who knows? Perhaps he will be back in the Premier League at some point.
