There is no doubt that Mohamed Salah is one of the best footballers in the world. The African striker has always been at the top of his game for Liverpool and Egypt. However, this Wednesday 14 June, the 'Reds' striker showed that every player can make mistakes, after missing an unusual goal with the 'Pharaohs' in the match against Guinea, for the African Cup of Nations.
Egypt took on Guinea in the fifth round of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. It is worth noting that only a few countries from the continent participate because these qualifiers act as a filter. Although Salah's team is one of the favourites, that doesn't mean that unexpected situations can't happen on the pitch.
When the Pharaohs were 1-0 down, they went in search of an equaliser and Mohamed had his chance. After a shot from a team-mate, the rival goalkeeper pulled the ball out to the side, where the Liverpool player was standing. Alone and unmarked by a defender, the 30-year-old striker shot and sent the ball high into the air, missing in an uncharacteristic manner what could have been an equaliser.
Despite this, Rui Vitória's side were able to pull the game back and, with goals from Trezeguet and Mostafa Mohamed, they went on to win 2-1. In doing so, they took their qualifying tally to 15 points and secured qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations.
