Darwin Núñez stressed that he hopes to return to Peñarol, the club with which he made his professional debut in November 2017, to win the Copa Libertadores', underlining that in football 'nothing is impossible'. Speaking on the programme 'Por la camiseta' (Uruguay's Channel 10), the current Liverpool striker said when asked about a possible return to Peñarol: 'I always want to return to Peñarol. I know that one day I'm going to return, because I want to go and show the people who criticised me a lot what I'm worth and what I can give to Peñarol'.
The 23-year-old is likely to play his first senior World Cup in November with the Uruguayan national team, with whom he has already played in the U20 World Cup in Poland 2019. He added: 'So I plan to return and lift the Copa Libertadores with the Peñarol shirt. That's a lot, yes, but anything is possible, nothing is impossible'. Nunez, born in the department of Artigas on 24 June 1999, made 22 appearances for Penarol, making his debut with Leonardo Ramos as coach on 22 November 2017 against River Plate on matchday 13 of that year's Clausura, and was transferred to Spanish side Almeria in August 2019.

With the Uruguayan team he scored four goals: on 13 October 2018 against Fénix for the Clausura tournament, and on 14 July 2019 he scored a hat-trick against Boston River for that season's Torneo Intermedio. At continental level, Núñez played seven games, including the two matches against Athletico Paranaense in the second round of the 2018 Sudamericana. And in 2019 he played five matches in Group D of the Copa Libertadores, where Peñarol finished third on goal difference in a group that also included Liga de Quito, San José of Bolivia and Flamengo.
Uruguay's Darwin Núñez reached the highest speed record in the current Premier League season. In first place is Liverpool's Uruguayan striker, with a top speed of 36.5 kilometres per hour. In second place is Arsenal's Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli, who has reached a top speed of 35.9 km/h this season 2022/23.
Portugal's Diogo Dalot of Manchester United is third at 35.8 km/h. The top five top speeds are completed by France's Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle) with 35.7 km/h, and England's Jack Stacey of Bournemouth with 35.6 km/h. A goal from Uruguay's Darwin Nunez and a saving goal from Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson saw Liverpool see off the visit of West Ham to Anfield, underlining Jürgen Klopp's side's improvement in the Premier League.
