The Uruguayan continues to show that he can become a reference for the team

Darwin Nunez scored a goal this Thursday in Liverpool's match against LASK Linz played in Austria for the first date of Group E of the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League. The Uruguayan striker effectively took a penalty in the 56th minute that meant a partial 1-1 draw, which was the beginning of the comeback to win 3-1.

Nunez is playing this European tournament for the second time, having already played in the 2020/21 Europa League with Benfica, scoring five goals in that edition where he played seven games. Taking into account all the continental competitions in Europe, the Artiguan attacker reached 16 goals, given that he has ten goals in the Champions League (six with Benfica in the 2021/22 season and four with Liverpool in the 22/23 season).

For this competition, those led by German Jürgen Klopp will play again on Thursday, October 5 against Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium at Anfield, closing the first round on Thursday, October 26 against Toulouse, also in England. It was a summer of uncertainty for Mo Salah with so many rumors of departure for Saudi Arabia. Liverpool rejected a million-dollar offer to keep the Egyptian... and he is responding on the field because he remains the most decisive player for the 'red' club. Yesterday, against LASK Linz, he took the field to kill the game... and he did. Furthermore, his goal placed him (again) in the history of English football.

Salah the other star

His goal was his first in the Europa League with Liverpool... but his 42nd in European competition with Anfield. The former Fiorentina or Roma player equals Thierry Henry as the player with the most goals for an English team in European competition. But what makes this figure even more impressive for Salah is that he reached 42 goals in 67 games... while Henry needed 81 games. With this goal, Salah has scored or assisted in each of his last 12 games for Liverpool. And despite his seniority, the Egyptian remains one of the most decisive players in the world.
