Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool are celebrating the arrival of a new face at Anfield Road, but the real targets were elsewhere. In private and to his closest entourage, the Liverpool manager admits that his most recent signing has arrived because of Real Madrid. It's a transfer market time in European football where not only Real Madrid are moving money across Europe. Real Madrid are the stars of the most eagerly awaited moment of the year for many, sometimes without even wanting to do so. Jürgen Klopp privately acknowledges that Liverpool's latest signing has arrived thanks to the Spanish capital club.
Alexis Mc Allister is the name that exemplifies the joy at Anfield Road these days. The Argentinian centre-half from Brighton is Liverpool's most recent signing, but his name was part of plan 'B' of what the manager really wanted. As was the case a year ago with Federico Valverde, Klopp was looking for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is no secret that the Reds were one of the rivals to beat in the whole Jude Bellingham operation that is giving so much information these days. The Merseyside outfit bid as far as their current situation allowed for a player who was part of the renovation of the midfield that Jürgen had in his plans, as well as in those of Real Madrid who are just a few minutes away from officially clinching their victory. In private and to his closest entourage, the Teuton acknowledges that the arrival of Mc Allister will be celebrated, although he was not the top priority at Anfield.
But this is by no means the first time Real Madrid have interfered in the plans of one of the best managers in the Premier League. As we have said, Real Madrid and Liverpool have crossed paths in various operations in the market in recent times and everything suggests that the Bellingham case will be far from the final chapter of this dispute. Aurélien Tchouaméni, often linked with Kylian Mbappé's PSG, was also one of Jürgen Klopp's main requests to the Fenway board, who, as with Bellingham, were unable to meet their manager's demands. Madrid set the pace in the transfer market and on many occasions without even putting up the money directly.
