Liverpool made a big signing in 2020 to reinforce the team's attack by signing Portuguese striker Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton, where he had a great spell. The attacker, who was 23 years old at the time, made an immediate impact on the team, scoring a total of 21 goals in all competitions in his second season at Anfield.
It was thus that Diogo Jota excited Anfield to become the team's new big star, however the 2022-2023 season was not so productive for him in terms of goals, as he registered just 7 goals, that is three times less than the 2021-2022 season. However, the fans have not lost confidence in him, and they know that he still has a lot of potential.
Diogo Jota himself seems to be aware that the previous season was disappointing on a personal level, so he would aim to come back stronger for the coming season, in which Liverpool must fight to return to the Champions League as soon as possible, after being out of the top four positions in the Premier League.
That is why the Portuguese striker knows he has a commitment to the Anfield fans and also to Jürgen Klopp who, no matter what, has given him the confidence to continue being one of the main names in Liverpool's lineups throughout the campaign.
After a disappointing 2022-2023 season in which he scored just 7 goals, Diogo Jota has revealed that his big goal for the upcoming campaign is to "surpass or eclipse" the 21 goals he scored two years ago. If Diogo Jota can achieve this goal, Liverpool would have a great chance of returning to the Champions League for the 2024-2025 season.
