End of discussion, this is the proof that Van Dijk is better than Vidic

Liverpool held leaders Arsenal to an agonising draw at Anfield, but their current form is not the best. Amid questioning, Virgil van Dijk has been targeted and Jamie Carragher has come to his defence, pointing out that no centre-back in the Premier League has had a bigger impact on his team.

The former defender spoke out in favour of the Reds' centre-back on Twitter, suggesting that Van Dijk is far better than Manchester United's historic former player, Nemanja Vidic, and that he had performed at the same level as Kevin De Bruyne in recent years at Manchester City.

This came after an entertaining 2-2 draw against the Gunners on Sunday, when the defence of Jürgen Klopp's side left much to be desired in the face of shots from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus in the first half. Indeed, Virgil's performances have been repeatedly criticised this season.

Carragher defends Van Dijk

Although Carragher, a former Reds captain during their great run, acknowledged the Dutchman's disappointing campaign, he believes no centre-back comes close to Van Dijk in the Premier League era. In response to another tweet criticising Van Dijk's form, he weighed in on the issue.
