José Mourinho has had a taste of what it is like to lose to the king of the Europa League. He did not know it until Budapest, where he had so far boasted of winning all five European finals he had played in, as Sevilla had done with the six Europa League finals they had reached. One of the two was to go down for the first time, and that was the Roma coach.

Even before that, Mourinho had been at his worst in the technical area, making a mess of the Sevilla players, but the worst came when the game was over and everything had calmed down. Mourinho went to wait for the referees of the match to berate them, mobile phone in hand, insulting them a few metres away in a shameful scene, those same referees who did not see a foul on Rakitic at the start of Dybala's 0-1 scoreline and those same ones who 'nicked' the penalty from Lucas Ocampos. Because Mourinho has a selective memory and only remembered Fernando's handball inside the box, which the referee himself said was close to his body and that after being reviewed by the VAR it did not go any further.

But yesterday there was one person who surely remembered José Mourinho. He is no Sevilla fan, but he knows what it is like to lose in a final against Sevilla and he had his ups and downs with the Portuguese on account of the Nervión team. In 2017, the Portuguese coach was proclaimed Europa League champion with Manchester United, and he was chest-thumping about the defeat in the previous year's final, which was the one that Jürgen Klopp lost with Liverpool to Sevilla.

Klopp warned

Klopp was then asked about those words from Mourinho and the German coach reminded him of the big difference between his final and that of the Portuguese. "I'm not interested in what José Mourinho says. Why should I talk about Manchester United? José is talking about us, yes. OK, we had a season with Manchester United the year before and I don't remember if anyone asked us about how we felt.... We lost the Europa League final, yes. We lost the Europa League final, yes. We played Sevilla, they played Ajax, that's the difference," said the German. Now, Mourinho knows what the difference is.
