The 23-year-old is yet to start a competitive fixture for Liverpool but has been notably impactful off the bench. Against Manchester City in the Community Shield final, he was introduced halfway through the second half and managed to grab himself a goal and force Ruben Dias to concede a penalty.

And on Saturday he made his Premier league debut against Fulham after being subbed on with 40 minutes left to play, and in that period he both scored and assisted. And tweeting off the back of Nuñez’s impressive start to Liverpool life Gary Lineker has revealed his belief that the former Benfica man will be a hit in England.

The Match of the Day host wrote that it is ‘very clear’ that Nuñez will score ‘bundles’ of goals for Liverpool. According to Lineker, he possesses ‘the movement of a goal-scorer.’ Liverpool fans will be hoping to see Nuñez play from the start against Crystal Palace next week.

His cameos in a Liverpool shirt to date have shown that he’s good enough to be starting Premier League games for the Reds. Roberto Firmino is a useful alternative in the centre-forward role with his experience and quality, but it would appear his best days are behind him.

Jurgen Klopp

Klopp's side spent big on Nuñez to trigger the beginning of a refresh the front three and it’s time for the Uruguayan to be given that starting role. Perhaps more interesting will be how Jürgen Klopp approaches the centre-forward position when Diogo Jota returns from injury.

At the moment, Nuñez appears to be the best option in that role, but that could soon change with Jota set to return imminently. The onus is on Darwin Nuñez to keep contributing to the Liverpool attack when given opportunities.
