Darwin Núñez's season came to an unexpected end. After his toe injury was confirmed, Núñez was dropped from Klopp's squad for the final three games of the season, ending his tally at just nine goals in 19 Premier League starts.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the 23-year-old striker has been handed an extended summer break after being left out of Marcelo Bielsa's first Uruguay squad, with the striker set to return to the AXA Training Centre in July for the start of Liverpool's pre-season training 2023.

When Klopp made the arrival of Darwin Núñez official, fans of The Pool erupted with joy as the Portuguese La Liga goalscorer was signed from SL Benfica. According to Diario Marca with The Eagles, Núñez scored 34 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions in his final year, which is why the Red's paid 75 million for him.

He was compared to Luis Suarez and did not even end up being his shadow.

On his arrival at Anfield last summer, a section of the fans even compared him to the new Luis Suárez, the club's last charrúa striker. El Pistolero played 133 games and scored 82 goals from January 2011 to the summer of 2014. While Suárez did not win the Premiership or Champions League, he was able to do something that Núñez has yet to do, have Anfield at his feet.
