Roberto Firmino was linked with a possible move to Juventus during this transfer window, but after the win over Manchester City in the Community Shield the Brazilian expressed his desire to stay at Liverpool.
The 30-year-old striker lost his place in Jurgen Klopp's pecking order after the arrivals of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, but the Portuguese's injury allowed him to start against City in the game that gave the Reds their first title of the season.
"I love this team, the city and the fans. I'm here in Liverpool and I want to stay, of course," Firmino told TNT Brasil after playing 59 minutes at the King Power Stadium, where he managed a shot and a chance created.
He was then replaced by the Uruguayan striker, who played a pivotal role in Liverpool's victory, winning a penalty that Mohamed Salah scored to put the Anfield side in front after Julian Alvarez's equaliser and then sealing the win himself with a stoppage-time winner.
Klopp had previously emphasised Firmino's importance and on Thursday said the former Hoffenheim attacker was "the heart and soul of this team," he said ahead of Leicester's away win over Pep Guardiola's Manchester United.
