Despite being the home of our opponents, Old Trafford was a special moment for Liverpool and its fans as the legend Steven Gerrard and captain Jordan Henderson were reunited in an iconic image that caused many smiles for the Reds fans but also left a low blow for the number 14 of the Anfield team.

It came ahead of England's 7-0 win over North Macedonia in Group C qualifying for next year's European Championship in Germany. With this victory the national team reached two points and took a 12-point lead over second-placed Ukraine, who will be their opponents on 9 September when they return to see an international break.

Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard played together for four years at Liverpool from 2011 to 2015 and everyone expected Henderson to be the Reds legend's replacement. Although Henderson is the captain of the team and lifted the Premier League and Champions League trophy his numbers don't come close to what he managed to achieve over 17 years with the Reds.

The low blow

But Gerrard took a cheap shot at Henderson because he singled out Trent Alexander Arnold as Liverpool's and England's best player: “I think he’s better with a right back behind him. That’s better for Trent as it takes the defensive responsibility away from him. It’s something that’s going to take time. You can’t expect him to be fantastic every game in this role. It’s a different game in the middle of the pitch.”
