Mohamed Salah expressed his sorrow at failing to achieve the minimum target Liverpool set themselves at the start of the season: qualifying for the Champions League. Moments after Manchester United sealed Champions League qualification with a 4-1 win over Chelsea, Salah took to social media to express his displeasure that Liverpool are now missing out.

Jürgen Klopp's side needed United to lose both their remaining games to catch them on the final day, but will now play in the Europa League next season. "I'm totally devastated," Salah said. "There is absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to reach next year's Champions League and we failed."

"We are Liverpool and qualifying for the competition is the minimum. I'm sorry, but it's too early for an optimistic publication. We let you and ourselves down," concluded the Pharaoh.

The real captain

While Pharaoh came out to speak loudly and accept responsibility after a season of failure in which the Reds finished outside the top four there are those who point out that the one who had to take that self-critical responsibility was Jordan Henderson as captain of the team but he proved to himself that he is the real captain with this attitude.
