Darwin Nunez starred in one of the most expensive transfers of last summer. The Uruguayan striker signed for Liverpool for a price of 75 million euros plus 25 million euros in variables, according to Benfica, a deal that infuriated Edgardo 'Chino' Lasalvia, the former agent of the Uruguayan.
The agent explained in an interview on Fuera de Juego, which is broadcast on Carve Deportiva, how the split with Darwin came about and the bad manners of the footballer when it came to breaking up with him just before moving to Liverpool. "I didn't have a chance to talk to Darwin. I found out when he came with six bodyguards and didn't want to talk at the airport, where Juanjo Acevedo was. He had sent a guy from the company to look for him. There I tried to call him and from a WhatsApp message he told me that he loved me very much, that he would always be my friend, blah, blah, blah, but that he was going to start a new path with another company, and he blocked me. I had no right to reply. Everyone chooses how they want to live their life, but there is karma and it all comes back," says Lasalvia, who also recommends Darwin to behave like a good person.
"You have to behave like a good person and you have to have a memory. It's impossible not to have a memory. If you don't have a memory, either your parents taught you badly or you didn't get an antenna. If he says to me 'let's go with Jorge Mendes' (his current agent), I say, 'let's go with Jorge Mendes and take a photo together, if he's the one'. But he didn't go with Jorge Mendes, he went with another agent, the same as (Nicolas) Otamendi. When he was at Benfica they did a little ant job on him, they started to eat his head. I was angry when I lost Darwin. It broke me in half because I adore the boy, but I understood that it's a business. I couldn't go 10 times a year to Portugal. Sometimes not going makes you distance yourself or not see things that are happening and then the bomb explodes in your face," adds Lasalvia.
While the problems follow Darwin Nunez left Liverpool at the end of the season and returned to his country where he was seen in the last few hours playing a non-professional match with a team from his birthplace in the Matias Gonzalez stadium, remembering that he was left out of the national team due to an injury
