Manchester United played the game they should have and thrashed Chelsea 4-1 at Old Trafford to seal Champions League qualification and send Liverpool straight into the Europa League with just one game left and the gap between the two sides at six points. What few expected was Salah's reaction after the Manchester United game. The Egyptian, who is one of Liverpool's leading lights, used his social media to take to his social media accounts to open up an unexpected internal controversy at the club.
"I am totally devastated. There is absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to reach next year's Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying for the competition is the least we can do," Salah said. In closing, the Egyptian added: "I'm sorry, but it's too early for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you (fans) and ourselves down. Salah made that disclaimer with a black and white photo.
The concern at Liverpool is that after this, Salah will end up agreeing his departure, something that has been talked about for months, despite having a contract with the club. The striker sees that the project is no longer the same as before and there are things he does not like. This Europa League qualification ends up being a disappointment for Salah.
Everything seems to indicate that Salah will not have a relationship with Liverpool in a few more weeks, as the Egyptian will soon stop wearing red to defend the colours of his national team that is about to resume its activities in the Africa Cup of Nations 2023, facing the Egyptian national team against Guinea on 14 June.
