The experienced Liverpool and Netherlands central defender did not overlook Firmino's footballing quality when asked about his talent. Ranking the most talented opponents he has faced and shared a dressing room with, Liverpool's Dutch central defender Virgil Van Dijk heaped praise on his Colombian team-mate Luis Diaz.

In a fake live interview with SportsCenter Argentina news, Liverpool's most expensive defender in history did not think twice about highlighting the talent of Diaz Marulanda, who he considers to be on a par with the best players of Brazilian nationality. The Dutch giant, a multiple champion with Liverpool and with a past with Southampton FC and Celtic, referred to the player who was the revelation player in England and Europe during the 2021/22 season of football in the Old Continent.

With the Brazilians it is difficult to say that Luis is the best. I've played with the Brazilians a lot more than with Luis (for now) but he's an incredible player, he has a lot of potential. He's going to improve and be up there with Alisson, Firmino, Fabinho... they've been outstanding for so many years playing together. Lucho definitely has a lot of potential. Diaz's side have the peace of mind of having been installed in the best 16 round of the UEFA Champions League 2022/23 and his team-mates miss him for his great performances during last season's cup runners-up spot and the FA Community Shield 2022 win over Manchester City.

Diaz suffered a knee injury to his left leg on 9 October in London when his club lost 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium to Arsenal FC. Since then, the Merseyside Reds' medical staff have ordered the former Porto and Junior de Barranquilla player to miss six weeks. Lucho will now be available for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 from 14 February to 15 March 2023.

Van Dijk believes Diaz will overtake Firmino

After the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Lucho Diaz will be available to play at Birmingham against Aston Villa on 26 December in the 17th round of the English Premier League.
