With the transfer window about to begin, Liverpool aims to be one of the most active teams in terms of bringing in new players who can help the club return to the top of the Premier League, and with that, return to the Champions League as soon as possible. However, this also means letting go of players who have been important in recent years and have become stars of the team.
After the last Premier League game, the board confirmed the departure of several players who have been a key part of the club's success in recent years. Among them James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino, the latter already being linked to big European teams such as Real Madrid and Napoli, although there is also talk of interest from the Arab league.
This year, other players are entering the final year of their contract and given that the priority of the board and Jürgen Klopp is to rejuvenate the squad, it is unlikely that they will offer contract extensions to those players. Thus, this transfer window could see several players leave Anfield and make way for young players who are on the radar of both board and Jürgen Klopp.
Such is the case of Thiago, who at 32 years of age is likely to be one of the players sacrificed by Klopp, since the German tactician's top priority is to rebuild the team's midfield. Alcántara is worth 15 million euros according to Transfermarkt, but as it is the last year of his contract, Liverpool could sell him for less than that.
Since his arrival in 2020, Thiago Alcantara has won every trophy possible under Jürgen Klopp, including the Champions League and the Premier League. The Spanish midfielder has been one of the key players in the team's success and an eventual departure would consolidate him as a contemporary legend of the institution.
