Two volleys from Gundogan, one of them the fastest goal in cup final history, saw Manchester City snatch their second FA Cup under Pep Guardiola (2-1) and move to within one game, the Champions League final against Inter Milán, of becoming only the second English side in history to win the treble. It will be seven days from now when Guardiola's side, perhaps the most dominant in English football, have the chance to match Manchester United's 1999 feat. Inter will have the last word, after United missed the chance to be the executioner of the Sky Blues' historic season.

In what was already a lopsided final, Erik Ten Hag's side were not helped by conceding the earliest goal in the history of FA Cup finals. No sooner had City come out of midfield than there was a Stefan Ortega through ball, a Haaland extension, an erratic Lindelof clearance and a volley into the top corner from Ilkay Gundogan. Thirteen seconds in and United had already shot themselves in the foot. And three minutes later, they had to be thankful that the final was not already over, because Rodri's header and De Bruyne's shot could have sealed the trophy quickly.

Bruno Fernandes put in a cross to the far post, Wan-Bissaka won it with a header and the ball hit Jack Grealish's hand. A few seconds passed with no-one complaining until the referee stopped the game because he had received the VAR warning. A visit to the screen and a penalty for United. Fernandes made no mistake from 11 yards, giving United an undeserved extra ball.

Fernandes made a fool of himself

The most eye-catching moment of the final came at half-time when Bruno Fernandes tried to approach his Portugal team-mate Bernando Silva, but was rebuffed, showing that there is no good harmony between the two despite the fact that they have shared a dressing room for several years. These images are making their way around the world.
