When a footballer is put to the test to decide his immediate future between two of the biggest institutions in Europe, it will always be complicated as the months go by to know if the choice made was the right one. This fact is not precisely related to a Liverpool player, but to one who today certainly seems to regret having ignored the opportunities he had to represent the Reds as one of their star midfielders.

Although by statistics and good football one could say that midfielder Federico Valverde has an enviable and impeccable career at Real Madrid, this fact evidently did not assure the Uruguayan international a place as an undisputed starter for this season, being relegated by Carlo Ancelotti himself as a secondary player of the group that today has the British Jude Bellingham as a fashionable and referent.

This undervaluing, so to speak, seems to have caused Valverde to wonder what would have happened if he had accepted Liverpool's offer during this transfer window, with the Uruguayan newspaper El Nacional (via Football365) reporting some extra details in a statement, saying that the 25-year-old half regrets his decision not to go to Merseyside when he could.

The Reds have already forgotten

Even before Klopp and the board took it upon themselves to sign four big, dominant midfield players, it is true that one of the Reds' biggest desires was to secure the signing of Valverde, Liverpool clearly knew that Bellingham's arrival on the bench would make the South American a lesser player with less opportunity to shine, something that would not happen on Merseyside as they needed a young and experienced leader, requirements that are now filled by the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
