The 2022-2023 season was not the best of all for Liverpool, as they went from being one of the best teams in Europe in recent years to failing to qualify for the next Champions League, after finishing in the Europa League places. Part of this failure lies in some players who have not performed as expected of them, and when the expectations on those players were so high, such as inheriting the mantle of a legend like Steven Gerrard, the failure becomes more noticeable.
During the club's most recent golden era, great players have arrived who have left an everlasting impression on the memory of the fans, such as Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Naby Keita. However, as is often the case in football, there are players who fall short and do not reach their peak.
One of these players who fell short in the eyes of Anfield was Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo, who arrived as one of the most promising players in Europe after a spell at FC Barcelona and promised to be the new Gerrard at Liverpool.
Nothing could be further from the truth, the 26-year-old midfielder's performance has fallen far short of what was expected of him. The proof is his devaluation in the market, as Transfermarkt currently rates him at 15 million euros and in the past he was worth 70 million. In addition, in his last season at Liverpool Arthur suffered a series of injuries that did not allow him to play a single minute for Jürgen Klopp's team.
Arthur Melo belongs to Juventus and his stay at Anfield was on loan. At the end of this loan, Melo should return to Juventus, however his agent Federico Pastorello revealed that he is not in coach Massimiliano Allegri's plans so he will be looking for a new team this summer.
