There is no doubt that the most memorable night in our club's European history was that magical evening in Istanbul when Steven Gerrard and the great Liverpool squad came from behind against AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final. That generation of players have since retired, or at least most of them have, but there is one player who is still active and who has once again won Europe's most important club competition.
That match against AC Milan, in which we lost 3-0 and ended up winning in an agonizing penalty shootout, marked the history of our club forever and positioned us as one of the greatest teams in all of Europe, as that team achieved a feat that is practically impossible to repeat.
This year, the Champions League final took place in the same stadium where Liverpool achieved the miracle, which revived beautiful memories in the minds of the fans who still remember the emotions experienced on May 25, 2005. That team, coached by Rafael Benitez and with great players such as Steven Gerrard and Jerzy Dudek, lifted the Champions League trophy.
In that 2005 final, Scott Carson was Liverpool's reserve goalkeeper and as such was part of the Champions League winning squad at the Istanbul Miracle. Now, 18 years later, the 37-year-old English goalkeeper is once again crowned Champions League champion as part of Manchester City. Scott Carson is a two-time winner of the most important club tournament in the world and on both occasions he did it in Istanbul.
