Spanish goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel will remain linked with Liverpool next season, transfer market journalist Fabrizio Romano announced today. He will sign for one season and will continue to share the Anfield goal with Brazilian Alisson. Adrian joined Liverpool in the summer of 2019 after ending his contract with West Ham. He had spent the last six seasons with the Hammers, where he was virtually unchallenged after joining from Real Betis.

The 36-year-old Andalusian goalkeeper has made just one appearance for Liverpool in the Community Shield this season. Even so, Jürgen Klopp rates his experience highly. "He knows pressure situations and that's an added value for us," the German manager said of Adrian. This is strange because days later several media outlets reported that among the positions that could undergo changes ahead of the 2023-2024 season is the goalkeeper. Brazilian Alisson is untouchable, but his two main substitutes, Spaniard Adrián San Miguel and Irishman Caoimhin Kelleher, were both likely to leave the team. There was talk that Adrian was willing to return to Spain, and the latter because he wants to join a club that will give him more opportunities.

According to Football Insider, the Anfield Road outfit had already set their sights on a goalkeeper that German manager Jürgen Klopp is very keen on. Ron-Robert Zieler, who is in his third season with Hannover 96 and has been on the English club's radar on several occasions in the past.

The rumour

The 34-year-old, who has had spells at Manchester United, Northampton and Leicester City, would be delighted to return to the islands in the final stages of his career. Moreover, the 96-year-old, who will continue to play in the Bundesliga next season, is unlikely to have too many objections to his departure.
