German national team announced that Hansi Flick has been dismissed

The German national team announced that Hansi Flick has been dismissed from his position as national team coach, a decision that followed a proposal by German Football Association (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf.

"The DFB's general meeting of shareholders and supervisory board decided today, at the proposal of president Bernd Neuendorf, to dismiss national coach Hansi Flick and the two assistant coaches Marcus Sorg and Danny Röhl from their duties," a statement said after Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Japan.

With nine months to go before Euro 2024 on home soil, Hansi Flick was sacked as Germany coach, a day after the 4-1 friendly humiliation against Japan, the German Football Association (DFB) announced in a statement. For Tuesday's match in Dortmund against France, current sporting director Rudi Völler, U20 coach Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner will take temporary charge of the team, before the federation chooses a successor to Flick ahead of the European Championship.

How much Klopp would be paid

Among the names of potential successors to Flick that are being bandied about in the media is the name of Jurgen Klopp, the current Liverpool manager who has a contract with the club until 2026 and who has said himself that it has always been his dream to be manager. Klopp's salary at Liverpool is currently 15 million so he would have to be paid at least 18 million to join the German national team.
