The idea of a reshuffle at Liverpool is gaining momentum and within the squad they are aware of that, which was acknowledged by Jordan Henderson, who said he was prepared to fight for a place, regardless of the possible new faces. "I don't think it will be a rebuild, to be honest. I think there will be new players coming in. A rebuild is about changing a whole team, which I don't think we're going to do," the midfielder said in an interview, recalling his 12th anniversary of signing with the Reds on Friday.
"I think you've got a lot of key players in the squad who will still be there and are still in excellent shape to compete and be successful. But yes, the squad will need refreshing, of course, with players leaving and others trying to improve the squad," he continued. On the expectation of reinforcements, the Liverpool man assumed: "I'm sure players will come in at some point to give us a boost and freshen things up a bit and, hopefully, put us in a good position for the first game of the season.
On what this change of names in the squad means to him, the midfielder, who turns 33 in June, said: "It's always a challenge, especially at Liverpool. There are always going to be challenges for places and to play. He continued: "That's been the case since I came to the club. I'll go to pre-season, I'll be ready for the challenge again. The motivation never changes, really. It's always about improving and being better, individually and as a team. There are always new challenges coming up, different things will happen, throughout the season."
Finally, Henderson was optimistic about improving the collective picture next season: "I'm confident we can reach the levels we're capable of, again. We've shown that in the last six or seven games and it's about continuing on that path between now and the end of the season and picking up where we left off, hopefully.
