Liverpool have confirmed club doctor Jim Moxon will leave his position in order to pursue other challenges. He initially joined the club in the summer of 2016 as head of sports medicine and fitness at the academy before he later joined the first team in 2020. He oversaw the club's response to the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago and has been an integral member of the backroom staff.

News comes just a matter of days before the Premier League campaign gets underway. Jurgen Klopp's side take on Fulham in the lunch-time kick-off on Saturday in hope of getting the season off to a flying start. “During my time at LFC I have met and worked with so many fantastic people in every department across the club,” Dr Moxon told. “I have learnt so much about what makes a great team and how to be a better doctor.

The replacement

“I have shared so many amazing experiences with my colleagues and the club are lucky to have so many great staff. I would like to wish everyone at the club – players and staff – the very best for the coming season and beyond.” Liverpool bolstered their medical department this summer with the appointment of Frigyes Vanden Auweele as the club’s new head of osteopathy. The Belgian has been brought in to support the club’s medical team with the prevention of injuries and the optimisation of performance.
