Almost four months have passed since Stefan Bajcetic announced that the muscular discomfort that had prevented him from playing in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 at the Bernabeu had developed into a serious injury that forced him to say goodbye to the remainder of the season. It was a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp. Since breaking into the Liverpool starting eleven at the start of the year, the 18-year-old Spaniard had become a key player in the German manager's starting line-up.

Whether playing in place of Fabinho as a pivot or, in recent weeks following Thiago Alcantara's injury, as a deep-lying midfielder, he had been a regular starter in the team's line-ups. The Liverpool youth product had made 11 starts in 19 games (in all competitions).

The injury forced Bacjetic to say goodbye to the U21 European Championship as well. In his first appearance in charge of the Under-21s, Santi Denia said that the midfielder from Vigo was in his plans and that only injury had prevented Bacjetic from making his debut for La Rojita in the friendlies against Switzerland and France in March. Four months later, the Liverpool player is completing his recovery, but the lack of competitive rhythm made it impossible for the coach to wait for him before the imminent continental appointment.

Replacement for Henderson

Klopp will have him available from the start of the season. While the manager is awaiting the arrival of several midfielders (Mac Allister will be announced shortly), the German is already planning for the coming season with the Spanish midfielder, who will be available to train with his team-mates when pre-season starts. This is great news for Liverpool, who are awaiting midfield reinforcements after their inconsistent year in the Premiership, but who will have in Bacjetic a pillar on which to start building the new project.
