The positive run in April and May, which coincided with the return of Luis Diaz, was not enough. Liverpool improved in the last two months (they went 11 games unbeaten, with a run of seven wins in a row), but it was not enough to correct an irregular season. Jürgen Klopp's team ended the semester without titles and without a place in the next Champions League. In the Premiership they finished fifth in the table, outside the top 4 going into the UCL and settling for qualification to the Europa League. In the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Champions League they were eliminated prematurely.

"Obviously for a club like ours it's huge not to qualify for the Champions League, I have to say (...) If we improve, suddenly we'll be a team that nobody wants to play against again, so that's what we have to get back to being. There were a lot of games in the season where I think teams were happy to play us, and that's actually the worst thing that can happen to you and I hated those moments. But that's over and now we start again," Klopp said after the last game against Southampton.

Injuries to Diaz, Jota and Firmino ... Bad luck in the season. For Klopp, prolonged absentees played against the team throughout the campaign. In addition to the injury losses, there have been changes in the squad - especially in attack - and the difficulty in consolidating an eleven.

The prediction

Jamie Carragher on who will challenge Manchester City for the title next season: "I think Manchester United and Liverpool. Liverpool have got a manager who has been there and done it before. There has to be a massive improvement but I think there will be. There's still players there that have won Champions League and Premier League titles. So I'll say Liverpool and Man United".
