Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was all smiles again as his side beat Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield in the Premier League matchday 4 fixture. The manager said his side showed what they are all about, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.
The Reds produced an impressive attacking display in L4, with Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz scoring twice each, while Harvey Elliott, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Fabio Carvalho also scored, plus an own goal from Chris Mepham.
According to the German manager, his side needed to prove a point to themselves after a short pre-season with mixed results; good performances and less good performances, completely normal for a pre-season, having a peak so early in the season and playing really well [against City] and then going down for some reason.
The German coach said he spoke to Bournemouth manager Scott Parker, but not about the result or the situation, but about the challenge suggested by moving up to the Premier League. "When you look at the other two teams that went up and you see what they spend and you look at Bournemouth and you say, 'OK, what's going to happen there?' It's not about the squad not being strong enough, or whatever, not at all, it's just that the league is very tough," he said.
"It's clear the moment you get promotion, it's clear the problems start now, so I think he's doing an unbelievable job, absolutely outstanding, getting there and getting promoted straight away in a league where Fulham are flying and Nottingham are flying - that was a big thing. Yes, I have a lot of sympathy for him," Klopp said.
