Although our Liverpool could not finish the 2022-2023 season among the top four places in the Premier League, the team was able to have an interesting closing during the last 10 games, in which they finished undefeated.

This was due, in large part, to the modifications that Jürgen Klopp made to the playing scheme. Perhaps the most important of those modifications was to put Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield instead of using him as a right back, which is his natural position.

During that span, Alexander-Arnold was one of the best players not only for the Reds but in the Premier League, as since taking on his new role he finished with 7 assists and a goal in the last ten games. For this reason, there has been speculation about Trent's future in Klopp's scheme, who seems to have found the new position for the 24-year-old England international.

Unlike at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is not one of the first-choice starters in the England squad, as manager Gareth Southgate has in the past considered Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James to be above Alexander-Arnold in the right-back position. However, Klopp's decision could help his player to have a more prominent role in England.

Southgate and his decision on Alexander-Arnold

Ahead of the matches to be played by the England national team, manager Gareth Southgate indicated that he might use Trent Alexander-Arnold as a midfielder during the upcoming matches, as he believes he has done well playing in that position for Liverpool. "You know that I think he is more than capable of playing there and it can be really exciting," he said.
