In an interview with Gary Neville for The Overlap on YouTube, Virgil van Dijk revealed how Jurgen Klopp has spoken to the squad a few times, including this season. "A lot of times [he shouts at Van Dijk], not to my face because I think shouting in someone's face is a bit disrespectful, but when someone needs it, he does it, he shouts a lot," Van Dijk said. "What I like, someone does it because they really care about you or the situation and make sure it gets better or makes someone else sharper. I really like that in a certain way and it helps me.
“When we played Fulham earlier in the season, in the last five minutes I was trying to go more direct and he was shouting at me to play a bit more. I knew he was shouting in the side so I was trying to look because I knew he was going after me.” The game ended in a 2-2 draw where the Reds had to come from behind twice. With Liverpool struggling to start this season, Klopp is probably raising his voice much more often than before.

The reason Liverpool are underperforming that no one is talking about
Liverpool - Virgil van Dijk admits that he likes being shouted at by Juergen Klopp while playing. But, sometimes Van Dijk sometimes gets discouraged by his manager's nagging. Since joining Liverpool in January 2018, Van Dijk has immediately become a key player. Despite his status as a defender, Van Dijk is the start of Liverpool's attack. The proof is that he has 197 appearances in all competitions and scored 17 goals, while recording 86 clean sheets and has never even lost more than 60 Premier League home games.
It is this performance that makes Van Dijk always Klopp's first choice. But, there is a big responsibility behind Van Dijk's career because whether or not the team's performance is good depends on him. So it is natural that Van Dijk looks quite often shouted at by Klopp, even though he is playing well. "Yes, of course very often (shouted at Klopp). It's not directly in the face because I don't think it's polite to be like that, but sometimes he has to do it, even though he shouts more often," Van Dijk was quoted as saying by Dailymail.
"What I like is that if someone does that then it's a sign that he really cares about you or the conditions, and makes sure the players are better. So, I really enjoy his style like that because it really helps me," Van Dijk added. But, unfortunately Klopp's shouting this season is more because Van Dijk and his colleagues at the back have performed poorly. Even Van Dijk has made two blunders leading to penalties this season, including in the first week against Fulham. If conditions are like that, Van Dijk was reluctant to see Klopp for fear of being scolded. "When we faced Fulham earlier this season and in the last five minutes of the game. I prefer to play the ball straight forward and he shouted at me for us to play more patiently. I knew he was shouting, but I didn't want to look at the sidelines because I knew he would come after me. Yes, like that," said Virgil van Dijk.
