Next season will be a big test for Darwin Nunez

It is no secret that Darwin Nunez's debut season has been far from what was expected of him, especially considering that Liverpool's board paid 80 million euros for him. His performances during his first season at Anfield have unleashed criticism from a sector of the fans, who now expect the Uruguayan attacker to return to form next season.

In his last year with Benfica, Darwin Nunez swept all before him in the Portuguese league, scoring 30 goals in that campaign. However, with Liverpool he could only score 9 goals in the Premier League, a figure far below what was expected of him. Everything seems to indicate that his adaptation to English football has not been an easy process for him.

In that sense, it has been said that the club is working with Nunez during the vacations so that the Uruguayan striker can improve his level of English and thus have a better understanding with his teammates, especially now that Liverpool is signing new players and it will be essential to generate a good chemistry with them.

However, beyond the language barrier, Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool fans would really expect Darwin Nunez to prove why so much money was invested in him. That is why, according to journalist Neil Jones, there is a general feeling at Liverpool of confidence towards Nunez, as they expect him not to take too long to pick up the goalscoring pace he experienced with Benfica in his last season there. Although they are also aware that Nunez has a lot of room for improvement in terms of his finishing technique.

Nunez's numbers with Liverpool

During his first season with Liverpool, Darwin Nunez has been involved in 42 games, scoring only 15 goals in total (9 of them in the Premier League and 4 in the Champions League). Despite the rumors, everything seems to indicate that Nunez will remain in the team for next season, in which he will have to show what he is really made of.
